The Fox & The Sour Grapes
and how it relates to weight loss, health & fitness
Have you ever heard the fable about the Fox and the Sour Grapes?
In the story, the fox is traveling down a path and he happens to see some grapes hanging from a vine. He looks up and cannot believe how delicious the grapes look and decides that he has to have them. The Fox thinks about how sweet and tasty they will be and begins to jump up to grab them. He is almost able to grab a handful on his first attempt, but falls just a few inches short. The Fox is drooling over those grapes and getting more excited with each jump! He continues to come up short with each proceeding jump and finally falls to the pavement gasping for air and out of breath. With a look of disgust, he then says...
"Who wants those stupid, rotten grapes anyway? They are probably sour or poisonous!"
I have seen this same scenario over the years with overweight people while I was performing weight loss and fitness seminars around the world. Many times I had met people who needed to lose over one hundred pounds who told me that they wanted to lose only ten or twenty pounds. They would say that they didn't want to look too skinny. The truth is that these people had failed so many times that they were afraid to make a commitment to lose more than a few pounds for fear of more failure. The sad part is that they failed because they listened to the latest fad diet or someone gave them the wrong advice.
The typical bad advice that everyone gives someone who needs to lose weight is to stop eating or drastically cut back on their carbohydrates or calories and do hours of cardio every day. This advice will cause a person to fail in the long run because the body will go into a catabolic state and eat up muscle while burning little fat. This will cause the body to plateau and they will then become frustrated and quit. Afterwards they will gain back more fat because they slowed down their metabolic rate by losing weight the wrong way.
Conventional Cardio is NOT the answer...
Strength training and proper nutrition is!
Food is NOT the problem...
Food IS the solution!
You must eat to lose fat but you just consume quality foods in the right amount and the right intervals. The most effective weight loss plan includes a progressive Strength training program and the consumption of a sufficient amount of quality calories, protein carbs and healthy fats for optimum recovery. This process will enable a person to increase lean muscle while burning more fat and improving their metabolic rate for long term, lasting results! This process will also allow the fox get to the grapes and taste the fruits of his efforts, while striving for more! Don't under-estimate the power of a great program...The Ultra Fit Program!
Have a Blessed and Powerful day!
