My mother…
My story begins with my grandfather, who tragically passed away from a heart attack at just 35 years old, leaving my mother fatherless at the age of nine. Although I never met him, his early death has profoundly influenced my journey.
In 1968, when I was 10, my mother suffered her first heart attack at 36. With her in the hospital, my father, a bodybuilder, took on the responsibility of caring for my siblings and me. He introduced me to the world of fitness by placing a barbell in my hands and teaching me to work out. By the time I was 13, I was engrossed in bodybuilding magazines and had set a goal to win the Mr. America title. That same year, my mother had her second heart attack.
Driven by my passion, I continued to work out and learn everything I could about the human body, training, and nutrition. At 15, I entered my first local bodybuilding contest. In 1974, my mother faced yet another near-fatal health scare. With the knowledge I had acquired, I helped her lose almost 180 pounds, transforming her health and life.
My mission!
This experience revealed my purpose. Blessed with this knowledge and ability, I felt called to fulfill GOD's vision for my life. At just 18, I began working in gyms, helping others lose weight and improve their health.
In 1982, I founded Ultra Fit. Over the past 42 years, more than 700 personal trainers have implemented my program, helping tens of thousands of people achieve their weight loss and health goals. Beyond weight loss, I have trained and coached over 600 champions in bodybuilding, women’s figure and bikini competitions, beauty pageants, and men’s physique contests across New York, Arizona, and Florida.
In 2006, I moved to South Carolina, a state ranked 4th highest in obesity. Recognizing the dire need for change, I dedicated myself to battling obesity and improving public health. Since then, hundreds of Ultra Fit trainers have helped thousands of clients lose significant weight and get in shape.
I had a mission to fulfill
My mission was to elevate South Carolina from its high obesity ranking. I implemented a comprehensive plan that included one-on-one training, educational seminars, motivational speeches, and collaborations with colleges and restaurants to promote healthy eating. By 2022, South Carolina improved to 12th in the nation for obesity, reflecting our collective efforts and commitment.
Today, I am proud to say that we are making a difference. My mother, who will celebrate her 91st birthday this June, stands as a testament to the transformative power of health and fitness. I am blessed to have her and pray for many more good years together.
